The day of river rafting was a good one, mostly. I managed to wake up early enough to cook myself an onion and sausage omelet that was quite satisfying. The sausage here is excellent, as it is in most of Europe, and it's about the cheapest meat that you can get at the market. I have a feeling that it's partially cooked as well when it's sold (maybe smoked) so it just cooks up so fast and easy that it inspires me to make breakfast when I go home... even though I generally don't care for that meal at all. Yea I know, it's an unpopular sentiment.
The guy that runs the hostel took 24 of us up the river, gave us the 3 rafts and 12 paddles and told us to make it back to the hostel within 6 hours even though it seemed like you could do it in 2 hours if you paddled a bit. Oh well. It must be an easy river since he didn't give us a guide or life vests. Within 10 minutes of setting into the water we had already pulled out to go to the first pub built along side the water. Jowen and I started with a shot and a beer as is appropriate at the start of all pub crawls. After all, we're here to drink... even if it was 11:30 AM.
The next pub along the way sold snack too so I got another sausage with bread and mustard as well as more beer naturally. The bar was connected to a boat rental shop too but I don't know how one would get there without a boat so I guess that maybe some people would have sunk their rented boat by now and would be stranded here if not for this rental shop. The people in my boat were ALL Australian (save for Jowen), as was nearly everyone in the hostel, and we played the name game.
As the day wore on and we stopped at more bars yet it started to get a bit scold and the wind picked up so that when we were at the last bar around 5 pm I was pretty damn cold and decided to walk the rest of the way back to the hostel since it was a 5 minute walk and let the others finish the boat ride. The rest of the night was dedicated to continued drinking and much merriment was made. Also, I checked online and found that the train out was leaving pretty early in the morning so I made some preparations.
The next day I said goodbye to Jowen (he's staying in Czech a bit longer) and hiked out to the train station to start a pretty epic journey to Berlin. When I got there it rained for 3 days pretty much constantly. I checked into a huge hostel with 700 beds called the Generator. It's a chain out here. The rooms each have 8 beds, though some private rooms are available and it's popular because it's the cheapest place in town at 10 euros but it's also crazy loud all the time. I didn't care for it.
With the rain how it was, I didn't do much sightseeing as that's all outdoors. I did however buy an umbrella and do some window shopping. I went to a dozed thrift and consignment shops looking for used lederhosen but couldn't find any. Apparently that's a Southern German thing. I also got a new pair of jeans and I'm still pretty excited about that. The rest of the time I did meet a few people but nothing that interested me too much. I started learning a new some (Losing my Religion) and had a Planet of the Apes movie marathon. I only got through 4 of the 6 movies though... they get pretty bad.
